A Conversation with Senator Brubaker

Brubaker Salutes Lititz Springs VFW for Community Donations

Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) organizations across the country play a vital role not only in improving the lives of their members, but also in making their host communities a better place to live. All of the 36th Senatorial District’s VFWs do tremendous work in their communities, and this week I would like to highlight the efforts of one of our local posts to demonstrate their generosity. The Lititz Springs VFW Post 1463 makes dozens of notable charitable donations to improve the quality of life in our communities and provides countless hours to several worthwhile volunteer activities.

In addition to the programs the VFW supports to provide assistance to our local veterans and members of the military, our Lititz Springs Post makes a number of miscellaneous donations to worthwhile causes such as the Make A Wish Foundation, Children’s Miracle Network, Salvation Army and research for multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, leukemia and lymphoma.

VFW Post 1463 supports a number of local fire, police and ambulance companies in Lititz, Brunnerville, Rothsville and Warwick Township through annual donations. The post also provides all of the American flags on light poles in Lititz Borough and pays for maintenance on the flagpoles in Lititz Springs Park and Town Square, and they donate numerous flags for scout troops, firehouses and civic buildings across the area. The organization also shares the cost of parade expenses with our local American Legion Post 56.

In addition to playing an important role in promoting safety and patriotism in our local communities, our local VFW post makes a number of investments in our future by donating to youth programs such as little league, midget football and the Lititz and Warwick Township Girl and Boy Scout troops. They also make annual donation for nearly all Warwick High School athletic programs and were a major contributor for the installation of the lights and field house at the school’s football field. The group’s donations to help young people are not limited to athletics, as they also help to support the Warwick Marching Band, Glee Club and Science Fair. In addition to supporting these youth programs, the group also purchased a defibrillator for the Lititz Springs Pool and partnered with the Lititz Police Department to build a skateboard park.

These are just a few of the donations that benefit our local communities in addition to the numerous military and veterans’ causes and local charities that the organization supports. Since 1990, the Lititz Springs Post has donated approximately $1.25 million for vital community initiatives funded by small games of chance.  All of these donations are funded by the organization with no support from taxpayers. Our area is fortunate to have an organization with this level of commitment and generosity for so many worthy causes. I am constantly amazed at the generous spirit of district residents, and the Lititz Springs VFW Post 1463 is a shining example of the positive effects that can result from individuals and groups who are willing to work in their home communities to make life better for their friends and neighbors. I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks for the continued efforts of our local VFW post to promote a more vibrant community. I salute their unwavering commitment to building a brighter tomorrow in our communities, and I would also like to offer a special thanks to our men and women in uniform that continue to serve our nation overseas.
