Local workshop offer guidance The Museum Council of Lancaster County and the curatorial staff of Landis Valley Museum are teaming up to offer a collections care and management workshop on Wednesday, October 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Landis Valley Museum, Lancaster, PA. The cost for the workshop is $10 for Museum Council members and $15 for the general public. Collections of historic artifacts, precious works of art, important archival materials and rare books are the business of museums. This informal workshop will cover the fundamentals of collection management including accessioning, cataloguing, handling and storage, cleaning and de-accessioning historic objects. Bruce Bomberger, Landis Valley Museum curator, will present a session on general collection management, documentation, cataloguing and registration from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Donna Horst, Landis Valley Museum staff preparatory, will offer a session on collection care, cleaning, preserving and handling from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Developing a museum collecting plan also will be discussed. Staff and volunteer caretakers of small museums and historical collections may particularly benefit from this workshop. To pre-register for the workshop, contact Cindy Adair, office manager, Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, (717)687-8628, extension 3001. Walk-in registrations also may be accepted. | ||
