For Immediate Release A Conversation with Senator Brubaker New Notary Public eServices available The Division of Legislation and Notaries of the Pennsylvania Department of State recently announced several new internet services available to notaries and the general public. One of the new functions available at the Division's web site, www.dos.state.pa.us/notaries, is an online search engine for notaries public. Using the "search notaries" link, anyone can now verify a notary's commission by name and/or commission ID number, and commission information, business names, addresses and telephone numbers are also listed. This database provides valuable assistance in locating local notaries. Also, the web site now allows commissioned notaries to update address information online once they have registered for eServices. Individuals applying to become a notary can verify that the Department of State has received an application without having to register or log in to an account. The Division's web site provides other information to assist individuals through the process of becoming a notary, as well as general information, electronic notarization and relevant state laws. In Pennsylvania, a notary public may administer oaths and affirmations, certify copies and take depositions, affidavits, and offer verifications, upon oath or affirmation and acknowledgments. In addition, notaries public are authorized to issue protests. For that reason, it is essential that Pennsylvanians have an efficient and effective means of verifying the identity of a notary and understanding exactly what a notary is able to do. Game Commission accepting doe license applications The Pennsylvania Game Commission began accepting regular antlerless deer license applications from resident hunters on August 4. Hunters are provided with a regular antlerless deer license application when they purchase their regular hunting license. Applications for unsold antlerless deer licenses can also be found in the 2008-09 Pennsylvania Digest of Hunting and Trapping Regulations that each license buyer receives. All applications must be submitted by first class mail; new procedures require that the applications be sent to the Commission's Harrisburg headquarters via post office boxes for each Wildlife Management Unit. The applications will then be distributed to County Treasurers based on the percentage of county land contained in the management area. Antlerless deer licenses are $6 for residents; checks should be made payable to "County Treasurer" rather than the Game Commission and applicants should not designate a specific county since the licenses are based instead on WMUs. More information, as well as license availability updates for each WMU, is available at www.pgc.state.pa.us. Community spotlight As the mother of a soldier, Columbia resident Linda Morrow knows the feeling of sadness that occurs when a child goes off to war. To help comfort mothers whose children have been deployed, Linda founded the Mums for Moms organization in 2004. Mums for Moms, run by Linda and other volunteers, provides flowers to these mothers and offers the opportunity to communicate with others who empathize with their situations. Over the last four years, Mums for Moms has expanded to reach out to deployed soldiers as well, sending care packages that Linda hopes will convey support and appreciation for their service from the public. Linda is looking forward to the upcoming holiday season and is currently putting together more care packages. To find out more about Mums for Moms or to offer donations, visit www.mumsformomslancasterpa.com, or contact Linda at 717-285-7675. | ||
