A Conversation with Senator Brubaker

Time to re-register for Do Not Call list

The state Attorney General's office is reminding individuals who initially signed up for the state's Do Not Call list in 2002 that they will need to re-register by September 15 to remain on the list.

The Do Not Call list helps individuals to avoid unwanted telemarketing calls on their residential landlines and cell phones. However, telemarketers may still call you if they had an established business relationship with you for the last 12 months or are calling on your request, if they are from charitable organizations, or are making calls on behalf of a political candidate or party.

Individuals must re-register every five years, so anyone who initially registered in 2002 and does not meet the September 15 deadline to re-register will be removed from the list on November 1. Although you can re-register or sign up after this date, the Do Not Call list is published only every four months under state law, and the next list will not be published until February 1, 2008.

If you would like to re-register or sign up for the first time, you can do so at www.attorneygeneral.gov; by calling the toll-free hotline at 1-888-777-3406; or by mailing your name, complete mailing address, telephone number and signature to the Office of Attorney General, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Do Not Call List, Strawberry Square, 15th Floor, Harrisburg, PA 17120.

Extended district office hours coming in near future

The district office will soon begin extended hours there in order to better serve residents of the 36th District.

The district office is moving from its previous location in Ephrata to a new location at 301 E. Main Street in Lititz which will be operational August 7. The new district office phone number is 627-0036.

We will also be opening the office for extended hours beginning September 1 to make it more convenient for you to stop by to pick up information and certain applications, and to receive assistance if you are having a problem involving a state government agency. Hours will be Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on Tuesdays when the office will remain open until 8 p.m.

You can continue to reach me at any time by calling toll-free at 866-738-1601, or by emailing me at mbrubaker@pasen.gov. Be sure to also check my web site, www.senatorbrubaker.com, for other updates and information.

Prizes awarded in Great Green America Fest contests

I am pleased to announce the winners in the contests I held during the Great Green America Fest in July. We had several excellent entries, and the prizes – imprinting kits to create t-shirts which were sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation – go to:

  • In the age 6 and under category, Sydney Hamm and Adam Burkhart, for their coloring of the "Ballooning Over Pennsylvania's Countryside" picture

  • In the "Draw Your Favorite PA Place" category for ages 7 to 10, Catherine DeNunzio, for her drawing of Long's Park, and Elisabeth Hare, for her drawing of Knoebels Park in Elysburg

Congratulations to Sydney, Adam, Catherine and Elisabeth!
