For Immediate Release A Conversation with Senator Brubaker Original Do-Not-Call registrations to expire Five years ago, Pennsylvanians were able to eliminate the nuisance of annoying telemarketing calls from their lives after the General Assembly established our state's Do-Not-Call list. Since then, all telemarketers who call consumers in this Commonwealth must remove from their lists the name of each individual who registers with the Attorney General's office. However, the registrations of anyone who signed up in 2002 are scheduled to expire in July 2007. The Attorney General's office is encouraging anyone who signed up immediately after the state law was enacted to re-register well in advance of this deadline, though, since they expect a large volume as July grows closer. You can get more information about the Do-Not-Call list and fill out an enrollment form at www.nocallsplease.com. This site is provided by the state Attorney General and also provides links to the national Do-Not-Call list. In addition, you can call the state's toll-free Do-Not-Call hotline at 1-888-777-3406 to have your name removed. You must provide your name, address and phone number, and you can add your cell phone number to this list as well. PA Heritage Week slated for March 9-18 Heritage Week 2007 is scheduled for March 9-18, giving all Pennsylvania citizens an exciting opportunity to learn more about our state and gain a greater appreciation for the values on which it was founded. The original 1681 Charter to William Penn creating our Commonwealth will be on display at The State Museum in Harrisburg, and all 25 historic sites and museums operated by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) will be open free of charge on Charter Day, March 11. The Ephrata Cloister is one of those sites, and will be open from noon to 5 p.m. at no charge to the public. The Ephrata Cloister Chorus will also perform at 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Saal. In addition, the PHMC and the Pennsylvania Tourism office are currently promoting family reunions, and will offer workshops and reunion planning forums across the state on March 11, including one at the Landis Valley Museum. This is an excellent chance to explore history, heritage and culture right in your own backyard, and I encourage you to take advantage of these Charter Day programs. If you would like to learn more about the events taking place, you can visit www.visitpa.com. Limited edition State Park tags available As part of the Pennsylvania Parks and Forest Foundation's commemorative pin program, a special limited edition tag promoting the Pennsylvania wilds has been introduced. A McKean County bobcat is featured on the PA Wilds tag in a colored-pencil sketch that was drawn by artist Nelson Haas from an original photograph. This particular pin is the first in a special series that focuses on unique regions of the state. In addition, the first-ever tag in the park series was issued in March 2006, featuring an image of the Pine Grove Furnace State Park. The commemorative pin program is being used to raise awareness of the state's 117 state parks and more than 2 million acres of state forests, and you can receive a collector's pin and descriptive card about the program for a minimum $5 donation at all state parks. The Foundation is planning to unveil at least four new pins with original artwork each year. For more information about our Commonwealth's parks and the commemorative pins, you can visit www.dcnr.state.pa.us and www.paparksandforests.org.
