Letter to the Editor: Community Deserves Thanks for Speedwell Forge Lake
Response
By Senator
Mike Brubaker (R-36)
In recent weeks, I have received
dozens of calls and emails from local residents expressing concerns regarding
the future of Speedwell Forge Lake. I hosted a community meeting last week to
address these concerns with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission in
conjunction with Rep. Tom Creighton. Hundreds of community members participated
in last week's meeting, and the overall response to this meeting greatly
exceeded our expectations.
I am deeply thankful to all of
those who attended this meeting to express their views and gather additional
information for the community. Discussions regarding funding options to repair
the dam and spillway have already begun, and I hope to host a follow-up meeting
sometime next year to update the community on efforts to repair the damage and
explore ways to restore Speedwell Forge Lake for future generations.
For members of the public who
were unable to attend due to limited space or scheduling conflicts, video of the
meeting is available on my website at
www.senatorbrubaker.com. Any member of the community who has questions not
addressed during the meeting can email the PA Fish and Boat Commission at
RA-speedwellforge@pa.gov. The presentation and other information related to
high hazard dams is also available online at
www.fishandboat.com/dams.
I am very thankful that so many
members of the community took time out of their busy schedules to voice their
support for this local landmark. I would also like to express my heartfelt
thanks to Brickerville Fire Chief Sid Adams, Treasurer Rodney May and members of
the Brickerville Fire Police for working so hard to make this community meeting
possible. I would also like to thank the members of the Fish and Boat Commission
for taking the time to listen to our concerns and answer questions.
This meeting truly demonstrated
the passion of our community and the deep concern for ensuring future
generations can continue to enjoy Speedwell Forge Lake. I would like to express
my sincere appreciation to all those who made this meeting possible, and I look
forward to working with all of you to restore this local treasure in the future.
