Recipes Being Accepted for Capitol Hunger Garden Cookbook
During the 2010-2011 year, the Legislative Hunger Caucus members and over 100
volunteers worked hard throughout the growing season to harvest vegetables for
Pennsylvania food banks and soup kitchens. With a portion of 2010 harvest, the
Legislative Hunger Caucus was able to take a portion of the tomatoes, peppers
and onions to produce Hunger Garden salsa. This salsa has been and continues to
be sold to raise profits for food banks across Pennsylvania. It also serves as
an awareness tool to alert members of the media, legislature and public about
the issue of hunger in our state. If you would like a complimentary jar of
salsa, please visit my Harrisburg office at 168 Main Capitol Building.
In order to continue hunger awareness, and to promote healthy eating in the
Commonwealth, the Legislative Hunger Caucus is producing a Capitol Hunger
Garden cookbook that will be unveiled in September during Hunger Action
Month. We are seeking recipes that promote healthy eating at all ages to be
submitted for publication. We will be accepting healthy recipes through August
19th. All recipes will be accepted but should duplicate recipes for a
particular dish be received, the first received recipe will be utilized.
Everyone that sends in a recipe to be included in the cookbook will receive a
free copy of the Capitol Hunger Garden cookbook once published. Recipes in the
following categories will be accepted:
1) Appetizers & Beverages
2) Soups and Salads
3) Vegetables and Side Dishes
4) Main Dishes
5) Breads and Rolls
6) Desserts
7) This & That (other items that do not fit in the above categories)
If you have a recipe that you would like to share in the Capitol Hunger
Garden cookbook, please e-mail or fax Christine Stoltzfus at
cstoltzfus@pasen.gov or (717) 627-1389
(fax) by Friday, August 19th. Please include your name and address. Your name
and hometown will be included when your recipe is printed in the Capitol Hunger
Garden cookbook. |
