For Immediate Release Brubaker Announces Winners of Spring Student Challenge Essay ContestHARRISBURG - Sen. Mike Brubaker (R-36) today announced the winners of the spring 2010 Student Challenge essay contest. The spring 2010 Student Challenge invited students to submit an essay of 500 words or less expressing their thoughts on how to make Pennsylvania a better place to live. The winners will receive an award certificate and a visit to the State Capitol in Harrisburg with a guest for lunch and a tour of the Capitol. "It is important to engage young people in improving our communities to make Pennsylvania a more attractive place for the next generation to live and raise a family," Brubaker said. "Students offered a wide range of suggestions to improve the quality of life in our state and region, and I would like to congratulate our winners and thank all of the young people in the district who put in the time and effort to take part in the program." The winners are: Jonathan Brown – 2nd Grade, H.C. Burgard Elementary School, Emily Krull – 5th Grade, Landisville Intermediate Center, Rachel Wilkowski - 7th Grade, Twin Valley Middle School and Logan Newcomer – 9th Grade, Manheim Central High School. The Student Challenge program is open to all K-12 students in the 36th Senatorial District, including the school districts of Cocalico, Columbia, Conestoga Valley, Donegal, Eastern Lancaster County, Ephrata, Hempfield, Manheim Central, Octorara, Pequea Valley, Twin Valley and Warwick. Home school, private school and cyber school students are also encouraged to participate.
