For Immediate Release Capitol Hunger Garden Groundbreaking To Take Place This MorningHARRISBURG -- Members of the Legislative Hunger Caucus will be joined by Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding, students from the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, representatives of area food banks, the Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University, the Pennsylvania Ag Coalition, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, PennAg Industries Association, the Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association, the Pennsylvania Vegetable Growers Association, the PA Association of Sustainable Agriculture and the Pennsylvania State Grange to hold a news conference to unveil the State Capitol's new Hunger Garden. The news conference will take place at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5 at the Hunger Garden, which is located next to Governor's entrance to the Capitol and the Ryan Office Building. Hunger Caucus Chair Senator Mike Brubaker (R-36) said the hunger garden will rely on volunteers to grow fresh vegetables to be donated to local food banks. Brubaker said the Hunger Caucus will work collaboratively on the Hunger Garden Project with Hunger Caucus co-chair Rep. John Myers (D-201) and Rep. Dwight Evans (D-203), who originally suggested the concept at a recent Hunger Caucus meeting. The governor's office and the Department of General Services will also be working on the project. Volunteers will be recruited to help plant and maintain the garden.
