Brubaker Announces Fall 2009 Student Challenge Program
HARRISBURG - Sen. Mike Brubaker (R-36) today announced that
the fall 2009 Student Challenge program would focus on Pennsylvania’s historical
locations.
Brubaker said that students are encouraged to submit an
essay of 500 words or less describing a favorite historical location in
Pennsylvania and explain why the location is important to the student. The
deadline to submit an entry is November 13, and winners will be announced on
November 20.
"I am hopeful that this Student Challenge will promote
greater interest in Pennsylvania’s rich history and heritage," Brubaker said.
"There are a number of interesting historical locations both in our area and in
every other corner of the Commonwealth, and I am confident that this essay
contest will serve as an excellent learning opportunity for students."
The Student Challenge program features periodic
competitions and is open to all K-12 students in the 36th Senatorial District,
including the school districts of Cocalico, Columbia, Conestoga Valley, Donegal,
Eastern Lancaster County, Ephrata, Hempfield, Manheim Central, Octorara, Pequea
Valley, Twin Valley and Warwick. Home school students from the district are also
encouraged to apply.
Winners will be selected from each age group by an
independent panel. Winners will receive an award certificate from Brubaker and a
visit to Harrisburg for lunch and a tour of the state Capitol Building.
Entries may be dropped off or mailed to Brubaker’s district
office at 301 E. Main Street, Lititz, PA 17543. More information about the
program is available on Brubaker’s website
