Senator Brubaker Takes Part in Lancaster Relay for Life
HARRISBURG – For the third straight year, Senator Mike
Brubaker (R-36) joined members of Lancaster County communities for the 2009
Relay for Life of Lancaster at Conestoga Valley High School on Friday and
Saturday.
Relay for Life is an event sponsored by the American Cancer
Society to raise money for cancer research, celebrate cancer survivors and
remember those who have been lost to the disease. There are more than 4,300
Relay for Life events held each year across the nation.
"The generous spirit of Lancaster County makes this event
special each year, and I would like to thank all those who have taken part in
this event and other Relays for Life in our area," Brubaker said. "As a cancer
survivor, it is particularly heartening to see the community come together to
offer love and support for everyone who has been affected by this disease."
The Relay for Life of Lancaster is the only Pennsylvania
event to raise at least $1 million for cancer research in each of the past three
years. The Lancaster event is the largest in the state and third-largest in the
country.
"In addition to helping those whose lives have been
impacted by cancer, the Relay for Life plays a vital role in educating the
public about the far-ranging effects of this disease," Brubaker said. "I would
urge district residents to take part in regular cancer screenings and doctor
visits to reduce the risks posed by cancer."
