Brubaker Announces Summer 2009 Student Challenge Program
HARRISBURG - Sen. Mike Brubaker (R-36) today announced that the 2009 Summer
Student Challenge would focus on volunteerism and community service.
Brubaker said that students are encouraged to submit artwork, including
drawings, paintings, sculptures or pictures that demonstrate how individuals and
groups are engaged in volunteer activities and how community service affects
those around them.
The Student Challenge program was designed to encourage a greater sense of
community and civic involvement for our young people, and this contest will give
students an opportunity to recognize the importance of individuals working to
improve our local communities, Brubaker said.
The Student Challenge program features quarterly competitions and is open to
all K-12 students in the 36th Senatorial District, including the school
districts of Cocalico, Columbia, Conestoga Valley, Donegal, Eastern Lancaster
County, Ephrata, Hempfield, Manheim Central, Octorara, Pequea Valley, Twin
Valley and Warwick. Home school students from the district are also encouraged
to apply.
The deadline to submit an entry is August 14, and winners will be announced
on August 21. Three winners will be selected from each age group, and winners of
the Student Challenge will receive an award certificate from Brubaker.
Entries may be dropped off or mailed to Brubaker's district office at 301 E.
Main Street, Lititz, PA 17543. More information about the program is available
on Brubaker's website
