Brubaker Announces Winners of Student Challenge Essay Contest
HARRISBURG - Sen. Mike Brubaker (R-36) today announced the
winners of the Student Challenge program’s Memorial Day Essay Contest.
The winners are: Nick Fisher of Lititz Elementary, Julea
Truskey of Highland Elementary, Alec Rapp of Adamstown Elementary, Michaela
Smith of Park Elementary, Alex Rivera of Columbia Jr./Sr. High School, Vallesa
Carollo of Columbia Jr./Sr. High School, Ryan Miller of Octorara High School,
Abigail Butler of Octorara High School and Marilyn Ngo of Columbia Jr./Sr. High
School.
The winners will receive an award certificate and a visit
to the State Capitol in Harrisburg with a guest on June 17 for lunch and a tour
of the Capitol.
"We received a number of thoughtful and interesting essays
on the significance of Memorial Day during the competition, and I would like to
thank all those who took the time to participate," Brubaker said. "I look
forward to meeting with the young men and women who won this contest during
their visit to the Capitol in June, and I encourage all students to participate
in the summer Student Challenge to be announced next week."
The Student Challenge program features quarterly
competitions that give students the opportunity to express their thoughts on
various historical events and pieces of legislation. The challenges are open to
all K-12 students in the 36th Senatorial District, including the school
districts of Cocalico, Columbia, Conestoga Valley, Donegal, Eastern Lancaster
County, Ephrata, Hempfield, Manheim Central, Octorara, Pequea Valley, Twin
Valley and Warwick.
