For Immediate Release Senator Brubaker Urges District Residents to Stay Informed About H1N1HARRISBURG -- Senator Mike Brubaker (R-36) is urging district residents to take advantage of state and federal resources to stay informed about the H1N1 flu virus, also known as swine flu. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has established a website, www.cdc.gov/swineflu, to provide facts about the H1N1 virus and give tips to help protect citizens. The Pennsylvania Department of Health also includes information on H1N1 on its website, www.health.state.pa.us. Brubaker, who chairs the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, noted that H1N1 is transmitted from person to person and cannot be spread by eating pork products. There are no known cases of H1N1 in Pennsylvania pigs, Brubaker said. "It is important for Pennsylvanians to know the risks associated with any infectious disease, and we are fortunate to have a number of reputable sources of information to help keep the public informed," Brubaker said. "I would encourage district residents to remain vigilant and learn more about the best ways to stay healthy." CONTACT: Kristin Crawford | |
