Senator Brubaker Invites Superintendents, Business Officials to Harrisburg

Holds open discussion on education funding

Senator Brubaker Audio

HARRISBURG – State Senator Mike Brubaker (R-36) hosted superintendents and school business officials from the 36th Senatorial District in Harrisburg today to discuss education funding in the state budget.

“Our school districts rely on state government for a significant portion of their revenue,” Brubaker said, “and I believe it is our responsibility to be open and honest with them about state funding so that they can better plan their budgets.”

Brubaker invited officials from all 12 school districts he represents to come to Harrisburg to talk with him about the prospects for education funding in the upcoming 2008-2009 state budget. David Broderic, Executive Director of the Senate Education Committee, also participated in the discussion.

In addition to the state budget, Brubaker asked the officials to share with him and Broderic some of their ideas and proposals for ways in which state government and school districts can work together to improve public school funding and the school budgeting process.

“Visiting with school administrators is essential because we can all agree that educating our youth is critically important, and it is imperative that we get our budget right when it comes to education spending,” Brubaker said. “The discussion today was very healthy and I am committed to keeping the dialogue open between state government and our school districts.
