"Building a Vision for Rural Pennsylvania" moves to Philadelphia

Senators Kitchen and Brubaker seek to bridge urban/rural gap

HARRISBURG – State Senator Shirley Kitchen (D-Philadelphia) will host a public listening session in Philadelphia for her colleagues on the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, Committee Chairman Mike Brubaker (R-Lancaster) announced today.

The second session of the "Building a Vision for Rural Pennsylvania" series will be held on February 21 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Board Room at St. Joseph's Hospital, a part of the North Philadelphia Health System, at 16th Street and Girard Avenue in Philadelphia.

"These listening sessions are designed to help the members of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee identify priorities and build an agenda for the current session," Brubaker said. "In order to craft a truly comprehensive vision, we need to build a bridge between Pennsylvania's rural and urban regions."

"We want to get a variety of perspectives, from people who live in farming communities to folks who live in more suburban areas and major cities," said Kitchen, who is a member of the Committee. "Anyone who is interested in learning more about rural and agricultural issues or has questions for committee members is encouraged to attend these free events.

"Individuals interested in attending the session at St. Joseph's Hospital should call 215-227-6161, ext. 18, to register, as space is limited. Participants should also indicate if they have an interest in speaking at the session.

"By having these listening sessions across the entire state, we can better understand how our communities are integrated and part of a larger picture," Brubaker said. "Then we will be able to work cooperatively to build a strong agriculture industry and a strong Pennsylvania."
