For Immediate Release Senator Brubaker Speaks to 36th District OrganizationsAddresses various legislative issues throughout week LITITZ – State Senator Mike Brubaker (R-36) addressed several state government issues this week as he met with local organizations. On Monday, Feb. 25, Brubaker participated with other area legislators on a panel focusing on mental health and mental retardation matters at the Friendship Community Evening at Landis Homes in Lititz. "I have the deepest respect and appreciation for the work Lancaster County and our local organizations do, and I absolutely support adequate programs and funding for the mental health and mental retardation communities," Brubaker said. "It was valuable to have the opportunity to hear questions and concerns from these groups and from families, particularly as they relate to the state budget process." The Senator had the opportunity to address a crowd of approximately 30 Lititz Rotary Club members at the General Sutter Inn on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 26, where he reflected on his first year as a state Senator. "The Lititz Rotary Club has a reputation for being dedicated to the highest levels of community service," Brubaker said. "I was honored to be invited to address the members and to share some of the highlights of my first year in office with them." The following night, Brubaker spoke at the Lancaster County Boroughs Association dinner at the Manheim Railroad Station, highlighting the Open Records Law reforms which were signed into law as Act 3 on Feb.14. "I was very proud to be a cosponsor on this legislation, because Pennsylvanians have a right to information about how their government operates," Brubaker said. "This kind of openness allows the people to review and understand what we do, acknowledging what we do well in addition to what we need to continue working to improve at all levels of government." Brubaker said the reforms will mean changes for municipalities in terms of responding to requests for public records and determining which records are public or nonpublic when Act 3 takes effect on Jan. 1, 2009. "For that reason, I was happy to discuss Act 3 with the Boroughs Association to provide some background on the parameters so that our municipalities can begin to understand their responsibilities under the new law," Brubaker said.
