Senator Brubaker speaks at Honey Brook Mud Sale

Annual event raises funds for Honey Brook Fire Company

HONEY BROOK – State Senator Mike Brubaker (R-36) spoke to Honey Brook mud sale visitors during the 2008 event on February 16.

The annual sale benefits the Honey Brook Fire Company, which serves both Honey Brook Township and Honey Brook Borough.

"Mud sales are a long-time tradition for volunteer fire companies in this area," Brubaker said. "Although they are actually a combination of auctions and consignment sales, they are referred to as 'mud sales' because they typically take place during the muddy spring season."

Brubaker noted that these sales are major fundraisers for the fire companies; in 2007, the Honey Brook sale raised between $25,000 and $30,000 to keep firefighters on the road and serving their communities.

Early in the day, Brubaker provided brief remarks on various legislation and initiatives of interest to the area.

"It was a privilege to have the opportunity to speak at the Honey Brook mud sale about what is going on in state government," Brubaker said. "Mud sales typically draw thousands of people and I am very pleased that so many come out to help support the efforts of our volunteer fire companies."

Several mud sales will also be held across Lancaster County throughout March.
