For Immediate Release Senator Brubaker Speaks With Students About Respect and AcceptanceEmphasizes message that there is NO PLACE FOR HATE LITITZ State Senator Mike Brubaker (R-36) spent time at Kissel Hill Elementary School in the Warwick School District on February 15 as part of the Anti-Defamation League's NO PLACE FOR HATE program. The first- through sixth-grade students have been taking part in this program for several weeks, participating in activities and discussions to encourage behavior that makes all students feel safe, accepted and respected within their school community. Brubaker spoke with the approximately 700 students about what they have been learning and what they thought of the lessons embodied in NO PLACE FOR HATE. "It was a privilege to be at Kissel Hill Elementary and hear what they have been learning about the importance of acknowledging the unique characteristics of every individual," Brubaker said. "I was very impressed with the students' answers about how we should treat others the way we want to be treated, that we all want to feel safe and happy, and that peoples differences should be accepted." The Senator also stopped to see the large NO PLACE FOR HATE pledge banner which students had an opportunity to sign later in the day to indicate their commitment to the programs principles. "We must continue emphasizing the importance of recognizing each person as different, special and worthy of respect," Brubaker said. "I congratulate the school, teachers and students for bringing forth this message and encourage them to use the ideas they have developed both in and out of the classroom."
