Senator Brubaker Announces Winners in Great Green America Fest Contests

HARRISBURG – State Senator Mike Brubaker announced the winners of two contests he recently held to encourage young people to think about environmental awareness and their communities.

Brubaker offered the contests at his booth during the Great Green America Fest, held July 13-15 at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Fairgrounds in Manheim.

"As part of my involvement with the Great Green America Fest, I wanted to offer an additional way to educate young people about ecology and the importance of being environmentally friendly," Brubaker said.

Brubaker offered contests to children 6 years of age and younger, who colored a picture entitled "Ballooning over Pennsylvania's Countryside," as well as to children ages 7 to 10, who were asked to draw their favorite Pennsylvania place. Prizes were awarded to the following individuals:

  • In the age 6 and under category, Sydney Hamm of Mount Joy and Adam Burkhart of Paxtonia

  • In the age 7 to 10 category, Catherine DeNunzio of Lititz, for her drawing of Long's Park, and Elisabeth Hare of Waynesboro, for her drawing of Knoebel's Park in Elysburg

The winners each received an imprinting kit with rubber fish stamps, paints and t-shirts, sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. In addition, each child who entered the contest received a Certificate of Participation from Senator Brubaker.

"I want to congratulate Sydney, Adam, Catherine and Elisabeth for their excellent work," Brubaker said. "I also want to commend everyone who entered the contests for their interest in helping to make their Commonwealth a cleaner and greener place to live."
