Senator Brubaker's Spring 2010 Challenge
 "Making Pennsylvania a Better Place to Live Essay"  

Senator Brubaker's Spring Essay Challenge is a way for students to express their thoughts about how we as citizens can help make Pennsylvania a better place to live. All entries should focus on describing an activity or an event that they currently participate in or that they would like to see implemented within their community, that would facilitate making Pennsylvania a better place to live.  

The contest is open to students in grades K-12 who reside in the 36th District (which includes the following School Districts: Cocalico, Columbia, Conestoga Valley, Donegal, Eastern Lancaster County, Ephrata, Hempfield, Manheim Central, Octorara, Pequea Valley, Twin Valley & Warwick). Home school students are also encouraged to submit. 

Guidelines:

  • There will be four age categories by which the pieces will be judged: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.
  • Essays should not exceed 500 words.
  • The entries will be judged by an independent panel and a winner will be chosen from each of the four categories.
  • Entries may be submitted in one of three ways:

1.) Online by completing the form below and attaching the essay
2.) Mail to the Senator's Lititz office
        301 E. Main Street

3.) Drop off at the Lititz District office    

  • The deadline for submission for the Spring competition is Friday, May 7, 2010. Winners will be announced on Monday, May 17, 2010.

*Each of the winners will receive an award certificate of recognition, as well as the opportunity for themselves and a guest to visit the State Capitol in Harrisburg on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 for Lunch, a Tour of the Capitol and the opportunity to spend some time with Senator Brubaker.*
